A finely worked French devotional pendant in 18ct yellow gold, signed P.L. Dasset. The Virgin Mary is rendered in matte gold relief, framed by an exquisite plique-à-jour enamel halo in deep midnight and cobalt tones — a stained-glass effect achieved by suspending enamel without a backing, allowing the light to pass through.
The outer surround is set with a delicate ring of natural seed pearls, a classic 19th-century French finish that softens the piece and emphasises its sculptural quality. This is a rare example of plique-à-jour used in religious jewellery, more commonly seen in high-art Parisian workshops of the period.
Hallmarked with the French eagle’s head for 18ct gold.
